“What is inspiring?” we muse, perusing the last two issues of TalkTalk – a magazine that’s meant to motivate those perpetually feet-dragging twentysomethings into action. “What if we changed the dialogue around the doomed state of the world? What if we could show that small steps really can make an impact?”

There are so many smart, inventive people around us deciding that they can positively impact the earth and other beings upon it.

Jeannie Richardson took her exasperation at the bags of packaging accompanying her weekly shops and co-founded the rapidly expanding Wasteless Pantry store.

Natasha Grogan noticed the many benefits of connecting with nature and combined this with her background in education to teach children how to grow their own food.

Daniel El Aawar felt a big responsibility as an engineer to give people tools to do good in the world. He chose an honours project that could help undo some of the damage humans have contributed to the oceans.

And Nigel Quirk made large-scale changes to the processes used by Printgraphics in order to drastically reduce the environmental impact of printing.

Big, small, global, local. Change can be made on any scale. The ripple effect is real.
