Hands down the most hands-on teaching press in the country, Bowen Street Press is a fusion of passion, practice and learning. Located on Bowen Street, in the heart of RMIT’s city campus, Bowen Street Press operates as a student-internship program within the Master of Writing and Publishing program.
ABOUT US
Founded in 2016, Bowen Street Press produces books, magazines and digital content through a range of different partnerships with industry, not-for-profits, and institutional collaborators.
From day one our students collaborate to create tangible, industry-standard publications, dedicating more than 120 hours each semester to gaining practical publishing experience—from writing to proofreading, production and beyond—refining the tools of the trade while working alongside locally and internationally recognised industry partners to produce meaningful works with high impact.
Our list is defined by an attention to producing high-quality print and digital artefacts that engage with local and international publishing trends, celebrate and revitalise traditional formats, and demonstrate creative approaches to place, culture, identity and entrepreneurship.
OUR WORK
Bowen Street Press produces a diverse suite of recurring and standalone publications, from literary journals to industry catalogues, art books, zines, anthologies and magazines.
Bowen Street Press titles are the product of extensive collaboration with existing industry stalwarts, groundbreaking organisations in the not-for-profit sector, respected leaders in the global writing and publishing community and—closer to home—across various RMIT schools and disciplines, encouraging emerging perspectives and exciting opportunities for creative ingenuity.
We undertake our work with carefully selected partners—ranging from pioneering community organisations and social enterprises, leading arts and cultural institutions, industry exemplars, and established Australian and international publishers—to produce relevant and original publications.
