What condiment is perfect for you? Let the stars dictate what sauce and spice investments or indulgences you make this week.

ARIES (21 MARCH—19 APRIL)

Fiery Aries will love harissa, a Moroccan sauce that brings a sublime heat to anything—try it with root vegetables, as a meat rub or mixed through hummus. A very Aries life mantra is ‘spice is the variety of life,’ so go forth and spice!

TAURUS (20 APRIL—20 MAY)

Taureans are the foodies of the horoscope. To elevate their (already) gorgeous dishes, they should try yuzu kosho. A blend of fermented chillies, salt and punchy citrus (from the yuzu), this condiment comes in either red or green (depending on the chillies used).

GEMINI (21 MAY—20 JUNE)

ABC Kecap Manis is a sweet sticky soy sauce. Those unfamiliar with this condiment may expect the salty soy umami, but much like Geminis (beings full of multitudes), this sauce will surprise and delight. Try it with satay, tempeh and fried rice!

CANCER (21 JUNE—22 JULY)

Heinz Ketchup is one of the most nostalgic condiments around. Cancers are some of the most sentimental people out there so this ubiquitous ketchup will transport them back to fond childhood memories, indulging in their favourite comfort foods.

LEO (23 JULY—22 AUGUST)

A condiment that hails from the Balkan regions, ajvar is composed largely of red pepper and oil. It has a deep warmth to it, with a slightly smoky aroma. It goes well with breads, cheese platters and meat but bold Leos can be counted on to pair it with less conventional sides (it’s actually really great with croissants—don’t hate until you taste!).

VIRGO (23 AUGUST—22 SEPTEMBER)

Salsa verde is chock full of vibrant, green herbs that add a zing to any dish. Sharp Virgos love the finer details—its grassy, peppery, citrus-y, freshness will intrigue and enchant them! Practical Virgos will love that it can be drizzled over pretty much anything for an extra punch.

LIBRA (23 SEPTEMBER—22 OCTOBER)

Italian condiment agrodolce perfectly balances sweet and sour elements, a match made in heaven for harmonious Librans and the bountiful cheeseboard they are bound to eat as a ‘quick and easy 5-minute dinner’ tonight.

SCORPIO (23 OCTOBER—21 NOVEMBER)

Scorpios are spicy little pieces but absolute gems to hang around. In a similar vein of thought, Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp Sauce, nicknamed ‘angry lady’ for the grumpy face on the label, is a totally addictive, spicy addition to pretty much anything savoury.

SAGITTARIUS (22 NOVEMBER—21 DECEMBER)

Amba is a tangy fermented mango sauce the colour of liquid gold that will appeal to Sag’s adventurous and erratic palette. It can be found in sabich (one of the best sandwiches out there, a pita wrapped around fried eggplant, boiled egg and potatoes) but also works well with meats, bread and falafel.

CAPRICORN (22 DECEMBER—19 JANUARY)

Discerning taste is one of the markers of a true Capricorn. Aioli (in its purest form as a blend of garlic, lemon juice and oil) is a luxurious and sumptuous dip, condiment or spread. Often mistaken as a mayonnaise, Capricorns know better!

AQUARIUS (20 JANUARY—18 FEBRUARY)

Banana sauce was conceived in the Philippines during the Second World War as a resourceful alternative during a tomato shortage. Aquarians will love the tanginess and ketchup-like quality of this innovative condiment. Similar to Aquarians, it is a bit of an enigma.

PISCES (19 FEBRUARY—20 MARCH)

Pisces are big comfort food eaters, and speculoos spread is delicious paired with toast or ice-cream. These are, coincidentally, great accompaniments for catharsis-crying during sad films or laugh-crying over cute animal video compilations.
